Another Liberal MLA has resigned.
Roger Melanson, the MLA for Dieppe, announced this morning he is resigning to pursue a career in the private sector.
“Today, I am announcing that on October 21, I will resign as the MLA for Dieppe. After twelve great years of public service, it’s time for me to move on to new challenges. The decision to step down was not taken lightly, but it was time to take a different direction with my career,” Melanson says.
He adds that he will be forever honoured by the trust New Brunswickers have put in him, and he will continue to support the community.
Melanson also thanked his colleagues and volunteers within the Liberal party.
The MLA also served in the role of interim Liberal leader of the Official Opposition from September 2020 until August of this year.
Newly-chosen Liberal leader Susan Holt does not currently hold a seat in the New Brunswick Legislature. This creates an opening for Holt to run in an upcoming byelection.
Restigouche-Chaleur Liberal MLA Daniel Guitard confirmed his resignation earlier this week, as he plans to run for mayor in the new municipality of Belle-Baie.
Bathurst East MLA-Nepisiguit-Saint-Isidore MLA Denis Landry announced in September he was also stepping down to pursue a municipal role.
