Fredericton Condo Complex Evacuated After Fire

A fire has forced dozens of people from a 40-unit condominium complex on Fredericton’s south side, according to the Canadian Red Cross.

Fire crews on called to the four-storey on Serenity Lane at around 10 p.m. Thursday after flames broke out in one of the units.

The fire activated the sprinkler system, “leading to water damage inside walls and resulting safety hazards,” the Red Cross said in a news release.

Volunteers with the organization arranged emergency lodging for 13 residents while others made their own plans.

It is unknown at this time when the affected residents will be allowed to return home. The Red Cross said cleanup, repairs and safety inspections of the electrical system will need to take place first.

No injuries have been reported.
