Latest Phone Scam Involves False Emergency

New Brunswick RCMP are warning about the latest phone scam circulating in the province.

Mounties say scammers are calling with a false emergency and are pretending to be a loved one in distress or a police officer who has arrested a loved one.

If you receive a call demanding money in order to release someone from jail, it’s a scam.

You should not share any personal information, hang up and contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.

If you have paid money or have used pre-paid cards or bitcoin because of a scam, you should get in touch with police.
