RCMP Seize Weapon, Drugs From Vehicle During Checkpoint

Codiac Regional RCMP say they seized a weapon and drugs during a checkpoint in Moncton early Friday morning.

Mounties said they stopped a car at the checkpoint location on Main Street around 1:30 a.m. Friday.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene on several outstanding warrants, according to police.

RCMP said officers seized a loaded .22 calibre handgun, cash, and what are believed to be methamphetamine pills.

The vehicle and the license plate were also seized as they were determined to be stolen, said police.

Angelo Teare-Kotsabasakis, 35, of Moncton is facing eight charges, including:

  • possession of a stolen vehicle
  • possession of stolen property
  • unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle
  • possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • carrying a concealed weapon
  • possession of a restricted weapon without a valid license
  • unsafe storage of a firearm
  • possession of crystal meth for the purpose of trafficking

Teare-Kotsabasakis appeared in Moncton Provincial Court on Friday by way of tele-remand. He was remanded into custody and has a bail hearing set for Tuesday.
