Boy Called ‘True Hero’ For Saving Family From Fire

An 8-year-old Moncton boy is being hailed as a hero after alerting his family to a fire in their home.

Felix Dalley was recognized by the City of Moncton for his quick actions on Monday.

Moncton Fire Chief Conrad Landry told City Council that Felix noticed the fire on May 23 while playing outside his home on Carsdale Court.

“Felix and his friends noticed black smoke coming from his front porch. Felix stated that he always remembered when his father Mark told him that black smoke is a sign of fire.”

Landry said Felix entered the house at the back through the patio sliding door – not the front door – to alert his uncle, cousin and brother who were downstairs and his uncle alerted his father who was upstairs.

Everyone got out safety but Landry said the entire house went up in flames in under ten minutes.

“If he would not have noted the danger of this black smoke when he did, the tragedy could have been much worse given how fast the house was engulfed in flames.”

Felix was presented with a certificate of recognition and an award from the city – normally reserved for firefighters – at Monday’s council meeting.

Landry added Felix is a true hero and his actions will never be forgotten.
