Codiac Transpo Reinstating Pre-Pandemic Service

Codiac Transpo will be returning to a pre-pandemic service level this fall.

Ridership has grown significantly in recent months.

Angela Allain, director of public transit, told Moncton City Council the current economy is likely helping to boost the number of riders.

“We definitely are seeing a demand increase. I think part of that is due to fiscal challenges that people are having. Some people are starting to use their second car less,” noted Allain.

“We really didn’t know how long it would take to get customers taking transit again. But we’ve seen significant growth here since March of just this year. We had incremental growth all last year.”

Currently, Codiac Transpo is operating at a 90 percent pre-pandemic level.

City Council approved the reinstatement of 100 percent pre-pandemic service as of September 4.

The launch date was chosen to coincide with back to school and the return of post-secondary students.

Some service improvements will include extended evening service on neighborhood routes.
