Community Policing Office Delayed

A community policing office on Main Street in Moncton is facing delays.

Originally expected to open this summer, it is now slated to open this fall a few blocks away from city hall.

Interim Codiac RCMP Superintendent Benoit Jolette says there were factors in finding a suitable location and it had to go through the budgetary process.

“Every building that is housed by the RCMP has to go through our departmental security because there’s certain security thresholds that need to be met whether it’s secure doors or secure infrastructure for the landlines.”

Jolette notes how there have been construction delays everywhere and the new office is not immune.

“When we open that office, it’ll give another starting point for police officers on a daily basis to hit the streets whether it be on foot, bike, or in the police cars.”

Establishing a community policing office is one of the action items in Moncton’s new security plan.
