After 70 years of service to the Commonwealth and the recent pomp and pageantry of her Platinum Jubilee, what comes next for Queen Elizabeth II?
Barry MacKenzie, spokesperson for the Monarchist League of Canada, believes she will simply continue her duties as Head of State.
“She will sit down at her desk and her red boxes of diplomatic documents and government documents will arrive. She will meet with the Prime Minister and she will just carry on.”
MacKenzie says it comes as no surprise that the 96-year-old Queen has slowed down.
“She has stepped back to a degree. Certainly the days of overseas tours and even much travelling within the UK., those days are essentially behind her. The Prince of Wales and the Cambridges are certainly doing more and more.”
But he adds the Queen has indicated many times that her entire life would be dedicated to serving the Commonwealth.
Therefore he believes she will remain as Head of State until her death.
