The Université de Moncton will benefit from almost $28 million in federal and provincial funding for three projects on campus.
“The funds announced today are aimed at enriching the student experience by providing quality education and services,” said President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Denis Prud’homme.
“Part of this funding will allow us to update our technological facilities to enhance training and promote collaboration and complementarity in the delivery of our programs within the university and among post-secondary institutions in minority situations in Canada,” he added.
“We will be able to train a qualified professional workforce in sectors that are vital to the development and vitality of New Brunswick’s Acadian and francophone communities.”
The first project, with $18.5 million from the federal government and $5.5 million from the provincial government, involves maintaining and expanding programs including online courses in addition to acquiring the materials and equipment needed to deliver the courses.
Also, new $2,000 scholarships will be created for more than 1,000 students.
The second project involves soundproofing rooms, renovating spaces and acquiring furniture and equipment and the federal and provincial governments will each contribute $812,400.
The third project will replace and modernize computer equipment in labs and classrooms at all three Université de Moncton campuses with the federal and provincial governments each investing $1.1 million.
“As a proud Acadian and graduate of the Université de Moncton, I am very pleased to be at my alma mater to mark a great day for this premier institution in our community,” said Ginette Petitpas Taylor, MP and Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA.
“Support for these three projects will enhance the teaching capacity and quality of education at the Université de Moncton and promote student success for decades to come,” she added.
“This major investment will allow students and the community to benefit from a modernized university, in addition to promoting our Francophone and Acadian culture.”
