Mounties Target Safety In Traffic Blitz

RCMP were targeting seatbelt use, speeding, distracted driving and impaired driving during a weekend traffic blitz in Moncton, Riverview and Dieppe.

On May 13 and 14, Mounties issued 171 tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act and nine vehicles were towed.

These included 52 tickets for not wearing a seatbelt, 36 tickets for speeding and 13 tickets for using a hand-operated electronic device while driving.

Furthermore, 70 tickets for various infractions were issued, including five vehicles with no insurance.

Police executed an arrest warrant, issued a roadside suspension and charged six people for driving while suspended.

“We want to help keep New Brunswickers safe behind the wheel by focusing our efforts on proper use of seatbelts, speeding, distracted driving and impaired driving. These are the major factors that contribute to serious and fatal collisions” said Sgt. Mario Maillet with the New Brunswick RCMP Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit.

“We used our checkpoint on Main Street in Moncton as a way to interact with the public, and to highlight vehicle safety concerns.”
