Mounties Issue Over 166 Tickets In Traffic Blitz

New Brunswick RCMP conducted a recent traffic enforcement blitz in Greater Moncton which resulted in more than 166 tickets being issued and nine vehicles being towed.

Mounties were targeting speeding, proper use of seatbelts and distracted driving last Friday and Saturday (March 4-5).

Police handed out 41 tickets for speeding, 37 for using hand-held devices while driving, 32 for not wearing a seatbelt and the remaining tickets were for various other violations.

Officers also arrested an impaired driver, carried out an arrest warrant and charged seven people for driving while suspended.

“We want to help keep New Brunswickers safe behind the wheel by focusing our efforts on speeding, distracted driving, and proper seatbelt use,” said Sgt. Mario Maillet with the RCMP’s Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit (TTEU).

“We used our checkpoint in front of Moncton City Hall as a way to interact with the public, and to highlight vehicle safety concerns.”

The TTEU conducts regular, targeted traffic enforcement to improve road safety, educate drivers about the rules and to reduce serious injury and fatal collisions.
