Fire In Assomption Place Building Bathroom

A fire in the Assomption Place building on Main Street is under investigation by RCMP.

Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Keith Guptill says when they arrived at around 10:22 am Tuesday, they found a fire in a fifth-floor men’s washroom.

It is believed it was deliberately set.

Guptill says they managed to extinguish the flames quickly, but firefighters were on the scene for around 90 minutes to ensure the smoke was cleared from several other floors.

Everyone in the building was evacuated.

Damage to the building is believed to be minor at this point, but fire investigators are on the scene today.
