N.B. Reports Four Deaths, 165 Hospitalizations

Four more people who had COVID-19 have died, which brings the death toll for the province to 247.

Public Health reported the deaths involved people aged 70 or over in the Moncton and Saint John health regions.

Current hospitalizations related to COVID-19 rose by three on Wednesday and include three patients under the age of 20.

Of those in the hospital, 67 were admitted because of COVID-19, and 98 were admitted for other reasons for a total of 165.

There are 16 people in an ICU, which is a decrease by one from Tuesday. As well, five patients require a ventilator.

A total of 417 healthcare workers are isolating after testing positive for COVID-19.

Public Health identified 381 new cases on Wednesday, based on PCR testing data. Of these new cases, 181 are in the Moncton region, and 48 are in the Saint John region.

There are 4,371 active cases in New Brunswick following 414 recoveries, though these figures only account for cases confirmed through PCR tests.

An additional 521 rapid test positives have also been reported.

Across the province, 92.2 per cent of the eligible population has received their first dose, 84.7 per cent has received two doses, and 44.7 per cent has received a booster.

The rate of new PCR cases is 47.9 per 100,000 for those considered “protected” – having received their second dose within six months and/or have received their booster dose – and 55.6 per 100,000 for those with partial or no protection.

Of those currently in hospital, the rate is 35.6 per 100,000 for those considered protected and 104.4 per 100,000 for those with partial or no protection.

Among those in the ICU, the rates are 7.4 per 100,000 for those considered protected and 35.2 per 100,000 for those with partial or no protection.
