The uncertainty surrounding the pandemic has prompted the Capitol Theatre and Tutta Musica to cancel their upcoming production of “The Sound of Music”.
This professional musical theatre production, scheduled for February 26 to March 6 of this year, will be postponed to the same time period in 2023.
“Given the uncertainty of the current situation, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the musical to next year”, said Capitol Theatre Managing Director Kim Rayworth.
“Rehearsals were scheduled to begin last week and with a cast and orchestra of more than 60 people, a number of which are children, and given the highly contagious nature of this variant, we were losing confidence that we would be able to get through the rehearsal and performance period without positive cases.”
Given the success of past musicals, the producers chose to have the show during the same time period, just before March Break.
“People have come to expect and look forward to the musical during this time,” said Director Marshall Button.
Postponing to next year will most likely mean that some roles will have to be recast.
“We will communicate with our professional cast members’ agents in the coming weeks and months, to confirm their availability for 2023. We’ll also be in discussions with our local cast members and expect some changes in casting from now until showtime,” added Button.
Original tickets will be honoured.
If ticket holders are able to attend on the new date, no further action is required.
For ticket buyers who wish to receive a full refund, they are asked to contact the Capitol Theatre Box Office before February 18, 2022.
After this date, the regular ticket return policy will apply, allowing them to receive a credit on their account.
