Shelter Movers Looking To Set Up Greater Moncton Chapter

An organization that assists women and children escaping an abusive situation is looking for volunteers.

Project Coordinator for Shelter Movers Renée Charron says they are hoping to establish a chapter in Greater Moncton, “We are working with YWCA Moncton and Crossroads for Women to best see how Shelter Movers would fit in the community. Typically, we work through referrals through women’s shelters and other social workers.”

Charron says there are a few different types of moving services they would provide, “Getting these survivors out on an urgent basis. Other levels of moves could also be from a shelter to a new home or to live with a loved one or even just moving their things in or out of the storage units which we also provide.”

Shelter Movers currently operates in several other Canadian cities, Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, Montreal, Waterloo, and Halifax. It is a federally incorporated, volunteer-based non-profit organization.

“Typically in the first year of the new chapter, we look to have around 40 volunteers. But just to get set up in Moncton, I am just looking for just four to six really dedicated volunteers who want to get in on the ground level and work with me directly to establish this chapter. Initially, this would involve replicating Shelter Mover’s existing service delivery model, with support and guidance from Shelter Movers staff in other cities.”

Shelter Movers would also need to fill roles in other areas including an Operations Manager, Marketing and Communications Manager, Fund Development Manager, and Volunteer Services Manager.
