2021: Dieppe Mayor Re-elected And Equality On Council

A municipal election held in a pandemic in 2021, meant another term for the Mayor of Dieppe, who won by acclamation.

Yvon Lapierre says he is now working with a diverse group of council members, “I’m very happy with the breakdown on Council. For the first time we’ve achieved some equality between men and women around the table. We had three women elected and one re-elected. Four women on Council, which is a first for the City. I’ve been around the table since 1986, off and on, and I’ve never seen more than two ladies around the table.”

He adds they’ve worked well together, especially with the 2021 budget, and cutting the tax rate for homeowners by nine cents, which Lapierre says doesn’t happen often.

“We’ve got a younger Council overall and a balanced Council, so I’m very happy with that outcome,” Lapierre says.

The Dieppe Mayor has served in this role from 1998-2005 and again from 2012 until now. He was previously a Ward 2 Councillor in 1986 and 1989.

“It’s not about the Mayor, it’s about the overall organization and all the people in the community that make Dieppe such a great community to live, to work and grow a family,” Lapierre says.
