Moncton Firefighters Battle Boxing Day Blaze

Fire crews in Moncton spent more than five hours battling an early morning blaze on Boxing Day.

Platoon chief Paul Bruens said crews responded to a structure fire on the Salisbury Road about 3:30 on Sunday morning.

“It was a large garage with an apartment complex and on arrival, we had a report that people were living in the residence and home at the time of the fire,” Bruens said.

Bruens said they later learned the occupants were not home at the time of the blaze.

He said the firefighters did an “excellent job containing the fire to the garage area”.

“The fire did not spread to any other structures or any of the outbuildings. It was a cold morning so the temperatures were challenging for the firefighters,” Bruens said.

No one was injured and the cause of the blaze being investigated.
