Remembrance Day Ceremony Held In Victoria Park

Hundreds of people gathered in Moncton’s Victoria Park on Thursday to mark Remembrance Day.

Attendees included Moncton residents of all ages and many military veterans. They took part in several traditions often done on Remembrance Day, such as the singing of O Canada, and God Save the Queen.

The ceremony included the playing of the Last Post, followed by a moment of silence, which prompted tears for some people.

Ahead of reading out the famous In Flanders Field poem written by Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae, a man told the crowd “There’s a lot of restrictions right now, but there’s no restriction on being thankful,” referencing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced some Moncton ceremonies to move online.

Rather than having a 21-gun salute, several doves were released to commemorate those that served. Finally, attendees took turns laying down their poppies.
