Fire At Cocagne Restaurant Not Considered Suspicious

A fire in Cocagne that destroyed Le Pelican Beach Resto Bar, is not considered suspicious.

Cocagne Fire Chief Danny Desroches says it has been a busy month, and this was their fifth fire.

They arrived on scene on Thursday afternoon to find the building engulfed.

All of the employees in the restaurant, managed to get out safely.

Desroches says it took around an hour to get the flames under control, and over three hours before it was finally out.

There were around 30 firefighters on scene, from three volunteer fire departments, Cocagne, St. Antoine and Bouctouche.

Dersroches says an investigation into the cause is still underway, but an electrical issue is suspected.

With the number of recent fires, Desroches says they can always use more volunteer firefighters. They currently have a team of 28, four of them are women.
