Raising Awareness On World Suicide Prevention Day

According to the World Health Organization a person dies by suicide every 40 seconds.

The Albert Westmorland Suicide Prevention Committee is hoping the public will observe World Suicide Prevention Day Today on September 10th.

Co-Chair Murielle Doucet says it is important to help break the stigma keeping people from seeking help, “It is so important for them to know they aren’t alone, and there are many of us who are willing to be a support.”

Doucet says we need to connect with those who may need help, take action, talk and listen, and get informed about mental health..

“Sometimes it is just about being kind to each other. Sometimes it is just taking the time to listen to each other, or to create a safe space for people to be themselves and feel that they belong,” Doucet says.

A free concert is being held today at the Community Peace Centre on Church Street in Moncton from 3pm to 5pm.

Doors open at 2:00 pm to view kiosks and to unite with survivors of suicide loss.
