Shediac Man Charged Following Stabbing

A 64-year-old Shediac man has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing in the community.

On Tuesday, around noon, members of the Shediac RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing at an apartment building on Grand Pré Street. Police say they found a 58-year-old woman with stab wounds.

The woman was transported to the Moncton Hospital, where she remains in critical but stable condition.

Police say the suspect fled the scene but was later located in his vehicle at 12:30 p.m. on Malakoff Road in Scoudouc.

The man refused to exit the vehicle, even threatening to harm himself. Police managed to arrest the individual without incident at 2:00 p.m. and he was detained and transported to the hospital.

On Wednesday, Roy Gallant appeared in Moncton Provincial Court by way of tele-remand and was charged with attempted murder.

Gallant was remanded into custody and will return to court on Thursday.
