Major Fire Destroys Smokehouses In Petit-Cap

Firefighters from numerous departments in the region responded to a major fire early Saturday morning which destroyed two smokehouses in Petit-Cap near Cap-Pelé.

Located in Beaubassin-est, officials in the rural community say some homes had to be evacuated as a preventative measure.

Residents were also asked to avoid the area of the fire.

No reports of injuries.

RCMP were on scene investigating the cause.

Beasubassin-est mayor Louise Landry expressed her gratitude for the first responders involved in the collaborative effort on social media.

Firefighters from Cap-Pelé, Beaubassin-est, Shediac, Dieppe, Memramcook and Moncton were among the departments which helped fight the blaze.

The plant is owned by Botsford Fisheries which lost another smokehouse in a fire only a week ago.
