A Disc Golf Course Is Coming To Riverview

Blake Reynolds believes a disc golf course in Riverview could help promote active living.

On Monday night, Riverview Town Council agreed to contribute $10,000, a third of the estimated cost, to create a course after a presentation made by Reynolds.

The Anglophone East School District and the province are also expected to contribute financially.

The course will consist of 18 holes built in the wooded area behind Claude D Taylor School.

It remains undetermined how the lot will be split for use during school hours, but the course will be available for community use.

Because many councillors were unfamiliar with the sport, Reynolds described a low-barrier, family-friendly activity that would benefit the community.

“I think it’s important to have a lot of options for the community to get out and enjoy, especially in this current time,” said Reynolds.

Disc golf holds a relatively similar concept to the game of golf only instead of a ball and club, participants use their hands and a disc that draw similarities to a frisbee, and rather than using a hole, the game relies on a basket.

Councillors were also enticed by the proposed property after reassurance that construction will not affect nearby homes.

“The school is very excited to have a new outdoor pursuit that it can show the kids. Also, it’s going to result in the transformation of that unused or perhaps misused park space.”

Reynolds believes that once the town puts an official stamp of approval on paper, work could begin soon with the hopes of opening before the end of fall.
