Members of the Muslim community in Greater Moncton are supporting one another after this week’s tragedy in London, Ontario.
A family of four were run down, and a child was injured in what is being described as a an act of hate, because of their Muslim faith.
President of the Moncton Muslim Association Abdal Khan says this incident sent shockwaves through the Muslim community, “The whole community was feeling the sorrow and pain for the family and we thought we should get together and share our feelings and thoughts. Come together and heal at the same time.”
A vigil will be held tonight at 7;30pm at the Mosque on High Street in Moncton.
Khan says Islamophobia is spreading, “There is fear among the community, but at the same time, we have trust in the government and we have some trust in the local authorities, but at the same time, I think we need to do more.”
He says more needs to be done to stop the hate….
“We need to think about how we can stop this hate that is being spread and move towards reconciliation and spreading the right information to the people so they are not being brainwashed,” Khan says.”
A 20-year old man is facing four charges of first degree murder and one of attempted murder in connection with the incident in London.
