The company that owns and operates Canada’s civil air navigation system has cancelled surplus notices to 41 air traffic controllers for area control centres including the one located in Greater Moncton.
NAV Canada says the decision has been made due to air traffic forecasts that suggest they will require more staff.
Control centres located in Gander, Edmonton and Montreal will also be affected by this decision.
“We are proactively taking this action to support our customers as they shift their focus to recovery,” said NAV Canada President and CEO Ray Bohn.
In December, NAV Canada announced that restructuring efforts would eliminate about 180 jobs. At the time they estimated that 900 staff were let go due to the pandemic, equal to 17.5 percent of its workforce.
The region’s area control centre is located in Riverview.
