Incumbent Mayor For Dieppe Remains Community Focused

Dieppe’s Incumbent Mayor Yvon Lapierre has been involved in municipal politics since 1986.

“This will be my sixth mandate as Mayor. I have two prior to that as a member of council. I don’t think of this as being about me, but more about the success that the community is going through over the past 20 years,” Lapierre says.

He will be officially acclaimed for another term on May 25th.

Lapierre says he has always been community minded and driven. His intention when he first ran, was to benefit his children, “Now, much later, I am doing it for my grandchildren. I have five of seven grandchildren who are here locally in Dieppe, so that keeps motivating me to move the community forward.”

This is the second time Lapierre is being elected by acclamation, “I take that as a level of satisfaction being expressed. The last election I got 85 per cent of the vote for Mayor.”

New Brunswick’s municipal elections will be held for most of the province on May 10th. Areas affected by changes to the level of COVID-19 recovery, specifically the Edmundston region, will vote on May 25th.

All of the voting results will be released once the polls close that same night.
