A Kent County man is facing eight charges including attempted murder after an incident last weekend.
RCMP were called to an assault at a home in Renaud Mills last Saturday (April 17) at 1:20 a.m.
Before officers arrived, the suspect had fled in a vehicle.
A woman was taken to hospital and released.
Later in the day, police responded to an erratic driver on the Trans-Canada Highway near Havelock.
The description matched the suspect’s vehicle but the driver wouldn’t pull over.
Police eventually stopped the vehicle using a spike belt near the Shediac exit but not before it crashed into three police cruisers blocking the road.
The driver was arrested following the collision.
No one was hurt.
James Bastarache, 29, appeared in Moncton Provincial Court on Tuesday and was charged with the following:
- attempted murder
- aggravated assault
- assault with a weapon (two counts)
- assault
- operating a motor vehicle while being pursued by a police officer
- dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- resisting or obstructing a police officer
He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on Friday (April 23) for a bail hearing.
