Moncton High Student Sees Both Positive And Negative In Blended Learning

A Moncton High student has mixed feelings about blended learning in place during the pandemic.

Students have been attending class every other day while completing assignments at home.

Emma Leger says she heard a lot of positive things last semester, “Specifically from the people who are genuinely interested in their education and pursuing university or post secondary education, developing skills for time management and being independent and responsible, coming up with your own schedule. There could be a bigger focus, in normal years as well, because I know a lot of people gained a lot from it.”

Leger says this semester they are doing ten minute check-ins at the beginning of each class and that has been much more stressful for students, “I know that school is really important, but I also know that last semester a lot of students were successful in the way that they managed their time and found other times to do their work. They could also go to their jobs to help them support their families.”

She says many students at Moncton high are living in poverty, and some families are really struggling, because of lost employment due to the pandemic.

Leger spoke to members of the Anglophone East District Education Council at this week’s meeting.
