New Brunswickers who have been waiting for spring weather will get a bit of a treat over the next couple of days.
Environment Canada is forecasting temperatures to gradually warm up throughout New Brunswick as the week goes on.
“We have a series of low-pressure that are going to pass to our north, and what this means is generally we’ll get on a more southwesterly flow and it’ll bring some warmer air,” said Jill Maepea, a meteorologist with Environment Canada.
Maepea said daytime highs on Thursday will reach the high single-digits on Thursday and possibly double-digits on Friday.
The latest forecast calls for daytime highs of 12°C or 13°C in Saint John, Moncton and Fredericton on Friday.
“Normal temperatures for this time of year, generally highs of 2°C or 3°C and lows of -7°C and -9°C for southern New Brunswick, so definitely going to see some above-normal temperatures,” said Maepea.
While the temperatures will be above normal, Maepea said we likely will not set any temperature records this time around.
Maepea said the warmer-than-normal temperatures are only expected to stick around for a couple of days.
“On Friday, we are expecting a cold front to pass through, so a return to probably below-normal or near-normal temperatures for the weekend and into early next week,” she said.
Daytime highs for the weekend are expected to be just below the freezing mark, according to the latest forecast.
