A longtime Moncton city councillor representing Ward 3 has decided not to reoffer this spring in the municipal election.
Brian Hicks was first elected in a 1999 by-election and served consecutive terms until 2016 when he unsuccessfully ran for mayor against Dawn Arnold.
He returned to council in 2018 after another by-election to replace Rob McKee who was elected as an MLA in Moncton Centre.
Hicks says although he has the strength and interest, he has decided not to run again.
He was never afraid to ask tough questions on issues he had problems with.
Hicks says he’s most proud of stopping the privatization of Moncton’s water distribution system and negotiating the City out of a very bad parking deal saving millions of dollars in lost revenue.
Bryan Butler is currently the other councillor serving Ward 3.
