Briggs Maples is moving.
Owner David Briggs says they are relocating due to the sale of the Chocolate River station in Riverview. It will eventually be torn down and replaced with two twin ten storey apartment buildings.
Briggs Maples is moving to their home location at 2979 Main Street in Hillsborough. They have constructed an addition on their their warehouse, along with a production kitchen and store facility on the side of it.
Briggs says, “We’re very hopeful. It is a big step for us. We are going to do the same thing just in a different spot. We’re anticipating a different atmosphere there.”
The shelves will be stocked with a lot of the traditional products they sell, but he says there will be a few new items as well, from local suppliers.
As for how business has been over the past year during the pandemic, Briggs admits they had to do business a little differently, “We have quite a local following, people buying from us on a regular basis. We saw a lot of mail order this year, more than we are used to. That went a lot stronger this year, especially around November and December, the holidays. Not being able to come home to see family, so family sent them maple products.”
He says they did see a significant drop in maple syrup sales though, because many of the places they supply products to, rely on the tourism industry.
he says the sale of maple equipment, bottles and packaging on the otherhand, has been strong, “In that area, sales continued all year and on through the winter and fall. So we have done quite well with that and it has kept us going.”
Briggs says they hope to be set up in their new location in Hillsborough by the beginning of March at the latest.
