New Lieutenant Governor named for N.B.

A new Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick has been named.

Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the appointment of Louise Imbeault to the role.

Imbeault is a respected journalist, a dedicated women’s rights advocate, and a lifelong champion of the Acadian community.

Throughout her distinguished career, she has promoted Acadian culture across the world.

She has also been been an active member of her community with contributions that have earned her numerous recognitions, including the Order of Moncton, the Order of New Brunswick, and the Order of Canada.

Trudeau thanked outgoing Lieutenant Governor Brenda Murphy for her services.

Lieutenant Governors are appointed by the Governor General of Canada on the recommendation of the Prime Minister.

They serve a term of at least five years.
