Challenging Forest Fire Destroys At Least Twenty-Five Acres

Shediac Fire and the Department of Natural Resources will be back on scene of a forest fire this morning to look for hot spots.

Captain Julien Boudreau says three departments, from Shediac, Dieppe and Beaubassin-Est began battling the blaze at around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon.

It was in a treed area off Route 132 in the Scoudouc area.

Boudreau says it was difficult to access, and they had to rely on lakes and rivers in the area for water.

High winds also made things challenging.

They fought the fire for around four hours and at least 25 acres was burned.

DNR will be investigating a cause.

Boudreau says the fire is in a boggy area, which is normally very wet, but the area appears to be drier than usual.
