At least 30 people will be laid off as a result of West jet’s decision to suspend flights indefinitely to four airports in the Maritimes.
Spokesperson Morgan Bell says eight people from each of the affected airports, Moncton, Fredericton and Charlottetown will be released.
Five others will will be cut from Sydney.
Bell says the employees will be placed on temporary layoff starting on November 2nd.
Station Managers who will be placed onto temporary layoff starting November 5.
She adds, West Jet will continue to evaluate operations in Halifax and St. John’s to determine how employees will be affected by a reduction in services in those communities.
Over 3300 staff have been laid off from the airline since the pandemic began.
