Codiac Transpo Launches New Online Services

As of today, Codiac Transpo riders can track buses in real time and be notified of any delays.

Spokesperson Austin Henderson says the service is available online and will be available in mobile app form in the coming weeks.

“So whether that be snow weather cancellations in the winter time or right now when we’re operating at a reduced service levels, they’ll see that reflected on the web version and eventually in the app, as opposed to having a third party app, for example that says there are buses in the afternoon when right now there are not,” he says

Henderson says frequent riders can register to get updates on their regular routes and hopes the new service will encourage more people to use public transit.

“It allows them to see when the bus is coming. They can put a trip planner in and it tells them exactly what stops they need to get to, when they need to get there and will really make the bus ride easier for both those that are already using it and those that are going to use it in the near future,” he says.

Henderson says the new service is something the community has been requesting for some time.

“In the past, they’ve often relied on Google Maps or other third-party organizations and this is real-time data. It was part of a technology upgrade for our buses so it’s using the up to the minute data that our dispatchers are using for our buses as well,” he says.
