N.B. Sunflower Festival Adapts To COVID-19, Partners With Local Charity

The second edition of the NB Sunflower Festival is happening right now, just next to the Green Pig Market in Salisbury.

Festival partner Steve Gallant says a number of safety protocols are in place, including making the event longer.

The festival kicked off Thursday and will be welcoming guests from 10 am every day until August 30th.

“We’ve open for 10 days straight to allow for social distancing, allow people to come during the week and kind of spread out the crowd a little to give people a more space so they can still enjoy the field and not have it be quite as crowded as the past year,” says Gallant.

Gallant says they are asking guests to wear a mask when they can’t social distance.

“But he joy of an outdoor event is that it’s very easy to social distance,” he says.

Admission includes choosing your favourite of a variety of flowers to bring home. Gallant says they’ll supply a pair of clippers that are sanitized between uses.

“And in the field there is 6 acres of sunflower, 30 different varieties, all colours, red, black, white, yellow, purple, orange, everything you could ever imagine, all shapes and sizes,” he says.

Additionally, this year they’re partnering with a local charity to help support front line workers.

All funds raised through the sale of additional sunflowers will be donated to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital foundation.

You can also check out a number of local craft vendors who will be on site on Saturdays and Sundays.
