Interested In the Petitcodiac River? Why Not Ride The Tide?

Ever wondered about the history of the Petitcodiac River?

This is the third year for the Ride the Tide event, hosted by four local groups, The Town of Riverview, La Bikery, the Fundy Biosphere and the Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance.

Executive Director for Fundy Biosphere Jennifer Dingman says it’s basically a guided tour along the River, on bicycles.

“We talk about some of the people that used to live here, who still live here, and who used the River in the past, like the First Nation communities, and how the River was named. We also talk about some of the work that is being done right now to restore the river to its natural state. The Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance also talks about types of species they see in the River, and what they expect to see once the bridge is fully opened.”

The tour begins at La Bikery at 6pm, on either August 14th or 28th. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Dingman says, “Participants hear some stories and history of the River, some of the ecology and some of the fish that live in that muddy river. It’s a great way to get out and see something that is right there in our own backyard. You get a new appreciation for the area. Sometimes you just need to take the time to explore to remember how cool and interesting this place really is.”

The final stop is at the historic Fundy Chocolate River Station and Holy Whale Beer Garden in Riverview.
