Large fire burns barn in Lower Coverdale

Fire has destroyed a large barn and production facility in Lower Coverdale.

The fire broke out early Saturday morning on Highway 114.

“Upon arrival on the scene we found a large older barn with heavy smoke and an attached building with heavy fire inside it,” says Deputy Chief John Malloy.

Riverview Fire and Rescue called in assistance from the Moncton, Dieppe, Hillsborough and Salisbury Fire Departments.

“Upon entering the rear of the barn the conditions quickly changed and firefighters exited the building and a defensive fire attack was made,” Malloy added.

Two engines, eight tankers, one rescue, and two command vehicles were utilized.

Twenty-eight firefighters and one Chief Officer were on scene.

No one was hurt and there were no animals in the barn.
