The Emergency Coordination Centre in the City of Moncton is still operating, and they continue to meet on a weekly basis amidst COVID-19.
Fire Chief Conrad Landry says they are currently focusing on reviewing and approving operational plans put forth, “Any organization that wants to use our land or buildings for whatever it is, they submit an operational plan. To date, we have reviewed 66 plans, so that means there are a lot of activities, and a lot of people using our facilities one way of the other.”
Landry says they are also beginning to see plans for the fall as well, “We are currently reviewing one for the Moncton Coliseum. Not just for ice, but also for shows and exhibitions. We did have approval of a small one, just a couple of businesses that want to meet clients, so we did approve that plan. We are now looking at the fall with shows that will be smaller than we are used to.”
Landry says they are strongly recommending that anyone who enters any municipal facilities that they wear a face mask or covering. Signs have been put up to reflect that
He adds, “We are also working on a regression plan. I hate to say that, but in case we go back to the orange or red phase, it will be different than the first time. We now have Plexiglas, and masks and we have more understanding on the virus, so it will be different than it was in the first phase. If the province or our region goes into red, then we have a plan in place.”
General Manager of Leisure, Parks and Culture Catherine Dallaire says Owners of the Avenir Centre are in the process of looking at how they can reopen in the fall under new COVID-19 guidelines.
She adds their operational plan is expected to be very complex, “We understand that is will be multiphased and they are working with their parent organization to develop all of the aspects of the plan that would be required, whether it is activities that have spectators or not.”
