Hairdressers and Estheticians won’t return to work until phase 3, under the government’s COVID-19 recovery plan, but preparations are underway, so they can re-open once the province gives the green light.
Executive Director for the New Brunswick Cosmetology Association Gaye Cail says a written plan must remain at the place of business, outlining what they are doing to protect their clients, and accessible by any enforcement officer if requested.
She says getting pampered will be a very different experience.
“Cosmetologists should meet clients with a mask on. We are recommending strongly that there is only one client in the establishment per Cosmetologist at a time. Once that client is done then the other client will come in.”
Clients will also have to fill out a self-assessment questionnaire before they receive service.
Cail says physical distancing in the workplace must also be a priority, “One thing we do recommend is that if they are face to face during a shampoo, they should be protected with a face mask or shield. The clients mouth should be covered with a mask or something else to protect them as well.”
Cail adds the Association is offering support to all of the Cosmetologists and business owners, “Don’t open unless you are ready, and have your PPE in place and you have your disinfectants in order. Make sure that you are comfortable opening. Feel safe and that you can follow these protocols in order to open.”
