Fire Leaves Two Families Temporarily Homeless

Two families living in a home on Arbour Green Court in Moncton’s northwest have been displaced by fire.

Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Brian McDonald says they received reports of a deck fire at around 3am this morning.

He says the owner attempted to put the fire out himself, before calling 911.

When firefighters arrived, the flames had already spread from the deck, up the siding, to the attic.

McDonald says attic fires are challenging to fight due to the amount of exposed timber, and it took around an hour to extinguish.

Around 18 firefighters helped to battle the blaze. They were on scene for around two and a half hours.

There is substantial damage to the split entry style home.

McDonald stresses, you should always call 911 first when a fire breaks out, because the flames can spread very quickly.

The Canadian Red Cross is assisting two brothers, their wives and four children with emergency lodging, food and clothing purchases until they can receive additional support through insurance.

There’s no word on a cause yet.
