Health care services including massage, chiropractics and Acupuncture are not expected to resume until the third stage in the provincial government’s COVID-19 re-opening plans.
Acupuncturist and Naturopathic Therapist Breannah Slaney says she hopes the government will take a second look and allow these services to open sooner.
“When the timeline came out for us, I was kind of disappointed that we weren’t among the first to go back. We are actually in the third phase. In the second phase if what they consider are the priority health services, and in the third phase, are the other health services.”
She says there are many ways they can protect their clients.
“Obviously, physical barriers like masks and gloves, gowns when appropriate, there’s medical grade disinfectants that the room could be cleaned down with for the most part and sheets are changed between patients.”
Slaney says there are also ways they can ensure patients do not overlap for their appointments..
“As healthcare professionals, checking into our patients and not being able to help them, sort of goes against why we entered into our jobs in the first place. Knowing that people are sick, we want to get back to them as soon as we can. there are people suffering and not being able to access what they consider their primary healthcare.” Slaney says.
