The Greater Moncton SPCA is also struggling to make ends meet during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The shelter recently had to close its doors after the State of Emergency was declared, but they continue to accept animals being surrendered to their facility.
Executive Director Dan Fryer says they have seen a 50 per cent increase in animals being dropped off and 20 per cent decrease in the number of adoptions.
“That is due to the fact we have moved to an adoption by appointment only procedure. So, right now, members of the public will call in, and make an appointment, make sure they are pre-approved for adoptions and then come into the shelter to see the animal they are interested in.”
They are also heading into their busy season, “Now it is kitten season, so the number of animals is increasing constantly,” Fryer says.
The Greater Moncton SPCA is also currently looking for over 100 foster families to expand their current network, in the case they have to suddenly close facility all together.
