Update On Municipal Efforts Around COVID-19

Moncton Fire Chief Conrad Landry provided another update from the city’s emergency operations centre.

Landry says they are continuing to support public health by attending regular meetings, including provincial updates.

He says generally, Monctonians are following social-distancing recommendations, based on the many empty streets and closed doors.

Landry says by law, a state of emergency expires after 14 days, at that moment government officials will reassess.

“My prediction is we’ll definitely need it for another 14 days,”says Landry.

Landry says this is a long-term situation and they must prepare in case the health system becomes overwhelmed.

Later today, he will be meeting with Dr. Ken Gillespie from the Moncton Hospital to plan for the potential need of another assessment centre or emergency hospital at the coliseum.
