The executive director of the House of Nazareth has clarified the fees that clients will have to pay if they stay at the homeless shelter.
Jean Dube says someone on social assistance would pay $144 per month and no one will pay more than 30 percent of their income.
He notes how no one is charged anything during the first month.
In a news conference on Thursday, Dube described recent unverified comments made by some municipal politicians as very unprofessional.
“It’s an insult to our organization that has been here for 40 years. We’re not going to sit down and take it. We’re going to call a spade a spade… and if somebody says things like that they are going to have to answer for it,” he says.
Dube refused to give names but added that the community should be working with the House of Nazareth and not against it.
He did point out that Moncton city councillor Greg Turner has been a big defender of the shelter.
House of Nazareth board chairperson Nicolas Parisi stated on Thursday that the board fully supports Dube and the work he has been doing.
