Changes To Ticketing Process For Motor Vehicle Violations

Changes to the Provincial Offences Procedures Act come into effect today.

Changes will eliminate the requirement for an individual to appear in court to set a court date to dispute a ticket contest.

Individuals will now need to file a notice of dispute with the court within 45 days of receiving a ticket to get their court date or they will be deemed guilty.

Justice Minister and Attorney General Andrea Anderson-Mason says it’s an effort to improve efficiency by reducing the number of times an individual appears in court.

Additionally, RCMP will also begin issuing e-tickets in the province to reduce the amount of time officers spend roadside.

Officers now have the ability to scan drivers licences with a card reader, add some information and a ticket is printed directly from their vehicle.

The electronic record is then shared with the province and saved in an information system that is accessible to the police, the courts and Service New Brunswick.
