Canada’s Poverty Rate Is Declining

Results of the 2018 Canadian Income Survey were released today.

It found that over 1 million Canadians have been lifted out of poverty since 2015, but 3.2 million still live below the poverty line.

Since 2017, poverty has decreased by 1.8 per cent in New Brunswick.

Minister of Families, Children and Social Development Ahmed Hussen says the results further prove that their plan to help grow the middle class is working.

The survey shows that more Canadians than ever are joining the middle class and that the country’s poverty rate continues its downward trend.

Programs like the Canada Child Benefit, the increase to the Guaranteed Income Supplement and the middle class tax cut help Canadians save money.
