Donations Keep Youth Centre On Track To Stay Open

A youth center will remain open for at least another year, thanks to community support.

After losing an important funding sponsor, the Hillsborough Drop In was at risk of closing.

Executive Director Lynda Carey says , thanks to a meeting to discuss options to save the center earlier this month, they are able to look at the future again.

“Almost 50 people showed up at the centre to see what what going on and very shortly after the wheels started turning. We’re sitting here almost three weeks later and we have just over $20, 000 already secured,” she says.

She says the funds should allow them to stay open at least another year. A committee has also been formed to continue raising money.

Carey didn’t expect to come up with the funding so quickly and says she’s even residents without children have pledged money, fearing they would lose yet another service in the village.
