The spread of the coronavirus has raised a lot of questions and concerns in recent weeks.
A Moncton pharmacist believes the risk to Canadians is low but we can all take precautions.
Cynthia Ferguson says there are common ways to help prevent the spread of viruses including frequent hand washing.
“If you’re going to cough or sneeze, they call it the vampire cough to kids because you cough into your elbow… so you kind of make a cape. So when you sneeze, don’t cough into your hands, cough into your elbow,” she notes.
Ferguson believes we should be even more concerned about the flu right now.
She says an individual has to be quite close to someone who has coronavirus for transmission.
She notes how many of the cases to date have been health care professionals treating patients or husbands and wives.
But if you are expecting packages from China, she adds it would take more than 24 hours to arrive which means there is no chance of virus transmission.
