2019 was a year three families will always remember.
They are now first time homeowners thanks to Habit for Humanity.
The homes are located in Bouctouche, Rogersville and Port Elgin.
Executive Director Chantal Landry says families apply with the hopes of being the next to be chosen for a home, “It’s really special for families who have always wanted to be homeowners, and to be given an opportunity to finally be that.”
Landry says each family has signed a Lease to own agreement for their home and they make monthly payments including a mortgage, property taxes and home insurance.
“One family in particular, who are a really young family, they are just getting their feet under them and just getting things going for themselves. This is a really good opportunity for their growing family and to have enough space,” Landry says.
The mission of Habitat for Humanity is to provide affordable housing for all. Homeowners to achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build a better life for them and their families and be active participants in their communities.
“There is an incredible sense of pride. Many think that this opportunity may have never arrived. Being able to pick something as simple as the paint on your walls, I think that is often taken for granted,” Landry says.
